Cumin is one of my all-time favorite spices to use with meat, but without the meat portion it seems weird to use. I had to come up with something that could accent the earthy qualities needed for cumin, while still playing a role in the recipe. Sesame seeds definitely do the trick!

To brighten the whole dish up, we add a hint of lemon and garnish with lemon zest. This just elevates all of the flavors, bringing an acidic component along to contrast all of the heavy flavors that go on. It’s a delicious treat, give it a try!
Yields 1 Cumin Sesame Lemon Mug Cake
The Preparation
Base:
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons almond flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Flavor:
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- salt, to taste
The Execution
1. Get your mug ready! Alright, I’m using a cup for this one. Add 1 Large Egg, 2 Tbsp. Honeyville Almond Flour, 2 Tbsp. of Room Temperature Butter, 1 Tbsp. Sesame Seed, 1 tsp. Lemon Juice, 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder, 1/4 tsp. Cumin, 1/4 tsp. Black Pepper, and a pinch of salt.
2. Microwave this for 75 seconds on high (power level 10). Then, lightly slam your cup against a plate so that it comes out of the mug (or cup in this case). Top with extra sesame seeds and lemon zest!
This makes a total of 1 serving of Lemon Mug Cake with Cumin & Sesame. The serving comes out to be 407 calories, 38.8g fats, 3.8g net carbs, and 11g protein.

Lemon Mug Cake with Cumin & Sesame
Ingredients
